What’s your favorite thing about 242?

The community is amazing. It’s such an inviting atmosphere, plus the talks and worship are pretty awesome as well.

What’s on your iPod right now?

Well, it’s a mix of a lot of music, not too picky. I have everything from bag pipes to country.  Lately it’s been Phil Wickham & Hillsong United.

What part of 242 has impacted you the most and why?

The retreats have been incredible, but I really love the worship and talks. It’s great to take a break from the week and to gather with friends to worship and grow as a community of believers and followers of Christ.

What verse is God currently using in your life?

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”  Romans 8:35-39

The best 242 social event is...

Anything that is in the summer because I dislike the cold, especially the ice snow that Kansas always gets. Life is pretty awesome when you can wear flip flops and shorts and sit around a bonfire under the incredible Kansas sky.

Funniest 242 moment?

I wasn’t there, but have been told on numerous occasions about the time that Gordon MacLeod absolutely destroyed Cameron Anderson in football on one of the retreats.

Why is 242 different than other Christian groups?

I think it’s different because it’s such an inviting community and our goal is to outreach and show others the love of Christ. It’s about showing the love that God has shown us. It truly is a community that seeks after God and has a heart for the lost, the broken, the outcast.

Tell us a little about yourself...

Well I was born and raised in Hutch, Kan. I went to college at the Sterling College, home of the Warriors where I was a triple major. I am currently getting ready to start my masters so apparently I love school…

Anyway I love all things sports related.   am a HUGE Kansas Jayhawk fan and will be until God calls me home. But anything sports related will keep my interest.

I am the youth pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Derby where I have the amazing opportunity to work with an incredible staff, amazing church family, and a crazy bunch of middle school and high school teens. It’s pretty much the greatest job.

I also like ending most newsletters or anything really with the phrase
“now you know, and knowing is half the battle…GO JOE!”

If God had made you an animal, which one would you be and why?

I would say a grizzly bear. They hibernate during the winter/cold months and then come out during the awesome summer/warm months. If bears wore shoes, they would be flip flops, guaranteed.
